# Thematic classification

For the purposes of construction customisable indexes, it can be useful to divide the cryptocurrency market using a thematic or sector approach.

### **Classification methodology**

To classify a cryptocurrency into a theme, we aim to identify the primary activity/purpose, then map this to a theme in our classification system.

We do this by reviewing a cryptocurrency's technical documentation, marketing materials: website, white paper, lite paper and socials.
